When it comes to generating tons of publicity, Fred Phelps and his fellow protesters du jour at the Westboro Baptist Church seem to do it well. The question is, does any kind of publicity equal good publicity? Depends on your objective, I suppose.
Phelps earns an A+ in courting controversy (wee little children holding homophobic signs always work nicely in that regard) but fails miserably at retaliating against the counter-protesters in America’s most liberal city.

Conventional wisdom says that newspapers, the hallmarks of old media, are gasping their last breaths during the rise of the “citizen journalists” — SodaHeads, Twitterers, bloggers, and others emblematic of the new media – who will sweep them into obscurity. And many of us don’t care.
